I just read an article that questions: Are we are raising a "Lost Generation"? We are raising the most photographed generation ever. Yet it is becoming clear that they will not be able to see images of their childhood when they grow up.
This has long been a HUGE issue for me... I firmly believe that having portraits on display in the home is just as important to your children as sitting down together for dinner.
When I was growing up, all the images that were developed either went into photo albums or into a giant drawer and proved to be a powerful way to connect with family and close friends (and when I was dating, only the "serious" girlfriends got to see the drawer).
Unfortunately, nowadays, the images are on Mom and Dad's mobile phone or on Facebook; not easily accessible by your children.
Regardless of how or where pictures and portraits are created... PLEASE have them printed!!! Your children need to see them.
